5th Week

We go deeply in how MTV is viewed now, and how relevant it is for the success of the music.

For me, music video nowadays are created only when the song gets the top song charts. Which means that it is a showcase for that particular popular track. And by viewing the music video, not only you get to see what the artists is trying to deliver through his music, as well as the art direction of the video as well. For example, the music video "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley showcasing a fresh new style and one-of-a-kind of music video. This resulted not only making the music even popular than it ever is, but also attract new audiences who are interested in the visual aspect of music video making.

Assignment: Still have not reached the production level yet. However, we have agreed to shoot it this weekend and the location that Emese found. This time i will let Emese and Meerim do the major part of the work, as not only i will be fully occupied before going back home (Yay!) but also to see the potential and creativity of their ideas. Hopefully in this way, i can get to understand their ideas and style better to fit in with mine, thus working better in the next assignment.

Peace out.

  1. I agree that MTV only works in the 'already a hit' mode. But many other video distributors make it essential for any up and coming band to have a video made for them. It may (and will) not get MTV play, but it surely will get something somewhere.

Does making a video ruin the song?> to some extent, the Barkley video didn't fit with me vision of the song... and I didn't like it (at first). I like it now, by the way!

  2. "It may (and will) not get MTV play, but it surely will get something somewhere. " You are encouraging another categorization here WITHIN music video itself, where only certain music video be suitable for MTV standard, others falls into youtube. LOL!

Yes, i agree with you on the Barkeley song. It sure does not relate to the song (or maybe it does on a deeper level..ask the singer himself)..but again, we will tend to see it not only as a music video, but as a video art. And this inspires kids like me, as it's different and fresh and hip and the design concept is perfectly blended with graphic art Vector graphics, photoshop etc)
